Statement from Latino Community Fund Georgia on Fatal Incident in Savannah

Latino Community Fund Georgia mourns the tragic and unnecessary loss of life of Savannah educator Linda Davis, who was killed after her vehicle was struck by a driver fleeing a traffic stop involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Ms. Davis was an innocent community member who was not involved in the enforcement action and was simply going about her day when her life was taken.

This devastating incident represents an unnecessary loss of life and underscores a painful reality. Immigration enforcement actions create fear, instability, and dangerous situations that can harm innocent people. Linda Davis was a valued educator, neighbor, and community member whose life was cut short despite having no connection to the enforcement action itself.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family, students, colleagues, and loved ones. Our hearts are with all those grieving this profound and preventable tragedy.

Indiscriminate ICE enforcement endangers us all, the consequences extend far beyond those being targeted. Educators, families, and everyday residents are placed at risk. Public safety cannot exist when enforcement practices create conditions that put innocent lives in harm’s way.

Latino Community Fund Georgia calls for accountability, transparency, and a serious reexamination of enforcement practices that jeopardize the safety of our communities. We must prioritize policies that protect human life and ensure that no other family experiences such a senseless and preventable loss.

We stand in solidarity with the Savannah community and remain committed to advocating for the safety, dignity, and well-being of all Georgians.
